The COVID Chronicles #36: New Shower Completed (Finally!)

In the past week, the number of COVID-19 cases has increased by nearly 3,000.  This morning, per the AZDHS website, we are sitting at 19,255 cases, with 903 confirmed deaths.

In our county, the number of cases has increased to 72 in two short weeks since our governor opted to let the stay at home order expire and the number of deaths now stands at 3. In our zip code, the number of confirmed cases stands at 1-5. The highest number of cases in our county continues to be in the zip code for the border town of Douglas, which is at 28.

In my parent's county, which is just one county over, the number of confirmed cases has increased to 297, though mostly in the western part of the county around the border town of Nogales and its neighboring community, Rio Rico. In the eastern part of the county, which where they live, the numbers continue to hold at 1-5 cases.

Wife and I continue to practice social distancing and are limiting our social interaction. We did have someone come into our house yesterday to install glass shower doors (more on that later), and we continue to wear a mask when we leave the house for any public outing. Yesterday we spent about an hour with friends, but we were outside and at least 3 feet apart at all time.

One of the projects that had been on-going in our house was a remodel of our bathroom. I first want to say that Wife and I did not do this project on our own. I am not that handy and Wife's standard is perfection. In order to save our marriage, we hired a contractor out of Douglas to fix our shower.

This is what our shower looked like before remodel and the picture below is what it looks like now.

The shower was demolished in late February, which meant that Wife and I had to start using the clawfoot bathtub in our "guest" bathroom to get clean and fresh smelling.

The contractor we hired was not the most reliable person in terms of scheduling the work. He told us that it would only take a week to complete, but I guess a week meant 7 days and those 7 days would end up being at any time during the month of March because he finished his part of the job at the end of March, about the time that I started working from home. He also wanted his payment in one-third installments, not when the work was done. His invoice was not very detailed either. Wife and I agreed we would not be hiring him for any more work on our house in the future.

About the time our contractor finished his work, he told that we needed to work with a glass guy he had asked to come out and do the estimate. Well, that was the end of the March, just about the time our governor issued his stay at home order. But the glass guy came out yesterday on a specially scheduled weekend and installed the glass doors. He was very nice and very professional. He eve showed us where he made a cosmetic mistake on the metal framing and offered to come out and fix this week, presumably for free.

So last night, Wife and I were finally able to enjoy a shower after weeks of just taking baths.

All for this morning. Enjoy your Sunday!
