The COVID Chronicles #48: COVID Testing

The numbers of COVID cases have not been updated and remain where they were at the last time I posted, so I won't be updating them today.  Yesterday, Wife and I were tested for COVID after we realized we may have been exposed one week ago while having dinner with friends who have been in our "quaranteam" this entire time.  The story goes that I saw the husband walking out of a local supermarket on Wednesday evening as I was going in to pick up something for Wife. He kept his distance, at least 6 feet, and explained that someone with whom they had been working at a local migrant shelter had recently become ill and his wife had felt sick recently with sore throat and diminished sense of smell, so they were going for testing on Saturday.  After I got home, I called the wife to find out more information on how she was feeling, which was positive and less sick than it originally sounded. I called my parents and canceled our plans to join for the Thanksgiving meal on Thursday

The COVID Chronicles #47: Thanksgiving

Image
The number of active cases in our county has now reached 1300, which is the highest number of active cases we have had this year.  Wife and I may have been exposed this past Sunday night, so we are self-isolating.  We have an appointment to get tested tomorrow morning.  Yesterday was American Thanksgiving, so if you read this blog and celebrate the holiday, I hope your was memorable but safe. Wife and I had planned to spend it with my parents over the next county, but with COVID surging now combined with our potential exposure, we begged off the invitation and stayed home. I made a pumpkin pie recipe  that I had been wanting to make for some time. It met Wife's approval, though it could have used less sugar. I also roasted potatoes and made a buffalo chicken thing that involved pieces of chicken breast marinated in Japanese sake with salt, pepper, and garlic, coated in corn starch, and cook in a stick of butter in the oven at 450 for 20 minutes, then covered in buffalo sauce. That

The COVID Chronicles #46: Statistical Updates

The number of active cases in Cochise County is now up to 568 active cases. That's nearly 90 new cases since Wednesday. We have 12 active cases in our zip code for Old Mining Town, but the highest concentration of active cases continues to be in the town of Douglas, now with 244 active cases.  Given the spike/surge happening everywhere else in the country, I doubt it will be long before our governor issues another stay at home order or something similar to what was in effect this spring.  Wife and I have finished making 2 new bookcases from scrap pieces of old bookcases that we disassembled prior to our move from 1.5 Mile Mountain Town to Desert River City 5 years ago. These "new" bookcases are going to be gifts for friends of ours who have an aversion to purchasing new furniture, which means their growing daughter has little storage for her toys and other accessories. No pictures to show however.  All for today!

The COVID Chronicles #45: Veteran's Day Happenings

Good Morning. Before I get started with my post this morning, I would like to wish everyone a Happy Veteran's Day and I would like to thank any veterans who may be following this blog for their service to our country. Veteran's Day was originally called Armistice Day after the armistice that ended the stalemate that was World War I or as it was known at that time, "The Great War" or "The War to End All Wars".  Active cases of COVID-19 have exploded here in Cochise County , as they have all over the country.  I was very sad to hear that Texas has become the first state in the United States to pass 1 million cases of the virus. Just 10 days ago, the active case count was 185. This morning that number is 480. The highest number of cases continues to be concentrated in the zip code of the border town of Douglas, AZ, which currently has 185 of those active cases; including one of my departmental co-workers who resides there and who has been out on sick leave sin

The COVID Chronicles #44

I realize it has been awhile since I last posted about COVID-19 cases and information in our little corner of Arizona. I have been busy doing other things and because cases were tapering off and did not seem as much of a threat.  With cases spiking, I think blogging again about the pandemic might be a good idea.  Here are some statistical updates this morning:  In our state of Arizona, there have been nearly 250,000 reported cases with the number of deaths approaching 6,000.  In our county, located in the SE corner of the state, we have seen 2,216 cases with 185 of them being active. There has been a small drop in the number of active cases, which currently stands at 185. It was in the 190's earlier this week. The most number of active cases continues to be in the zip code of Douglas, AZ.  Our church is opening back up again this morning. We have been closed since the middle of March. We're not quite sure how it's all going to. Normally, on the 1st Sunday of each month, we
